In addition to the HIPAA Privacy Rules, the Administrative Simplification provisions of HIPAA require that Michigan Heart comply with the HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets requirements when electronically transmitting health information for payment, the coordination of benefits, certification/referral and other applicable purposes. See 45 C.F.R. Part 162. Michigan Heart shall comply with these HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets Requirements, including ensuring that it carries out all necessary and proper awareness, assessment, implementation and testing requirements in connection with any HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets Compliance Plan Extension it might have filed. So, too, it shall be the policy of Michigan Heart to comply with the HIPAA Security Rules as such time they become final and the compliance date relating to the HIPAA Security Rules arrive. Finally, Michigan Heart shall comply with the requirements of the HIPAA Unique Identifier Rules, including with respect to using employer identification numbers ("EINs") and individuals' unique identifiers (e.g., Social Security Numbers).
